Next gen was the show I watched as a teenager, and went to a couple nextgen cons. I remember Berman too. I think I just wanted more continuity and character development, but they just said "no it's not a soap opera". But then they started doing that with DS9, cause they finally realised that's what people wanted. But by that point I'd given up and started watching Babylon 5!

Ah Babylon 5 *happy sigh*. Yes, Babylon 5 proved that it's not omgawful to actually have a plan. The BSG writers should have watched that.

They definitely could have learned a thing or two about planning and continuity from JMS.

And it's not like it had to be set in stone; JMS had to deal with cast changes and network fuckery and still managed to tell a well done, coherent overall story.
