I can always find more.
Sep. 4th, 2010 07:05 pmMy bank balance may have breathed a sigh of relief when I got caught up with X Factor trade paperbacks, but I bought the first Scott Pilgrim book this morning.
Now it is cowering in fear, and I am trying to resist the call of amazon.co.uk.
Edited to add: the resisting lasted as long as it took me to see how much amazon had knocked off the price, but I did manage to restrain myself to just the next 2.

Call the Watchmen!
Jun. 4th, 2010 04:10 pmReading Watchmen for the first time, which gives me a good excuse to post this:
Though reading it I can't help feel that I'm doing it all backwards. I saw the film first, and haven't really read any of the older superhero stuff that the book is deconstructing, instead it's been the dark and gritty stuff that came after this. But that's not stopping my enjoyment of it, even though I know what happens in the end thanks to all the fan boy rage on the net about the movie screwing up the ending.

The Guild Comic

This has been helping with the wait for season 4, the art is pretty and the characters actually managed to look like the actors most of the time, OMG! The character voices come through just as well as on the show, in fact it is easy to imagine the actors saying the lines. If you like the show you should definitely consider buying this.
Here are a few scans to whet your appetite, 2 and a bit pages from issue 2 behind the cut, though it was a wrench to decide which bits to share. Vork's first appearance is epically heroic yet epically Vork, but I went with the first meeting between Codex and Zaboo. Ah, the beginning of a beautiful
( Solution'd! )
Thank God for Linkara.
And then we get Marvel's latest in it's "celebration of its female characters." Which of course involves thongs.
Though I am reminded I still need to get a copy of Girl Comics.

I blame Linkara!
Yep, got an interest in comics now. To be specific, the X Men corner of the Marvel universe, which is probably down to watching cartoons old and not so old (Jesus, that was ten years agao. Damn I hate things that make me feel old!). And there was some movies, pity they only made 2 lalala not listening!
I am faced with decades worth of convoluted storylines, retcons and author wankery. My God, the author wankery.
It's beautiful!
Currently I've been enjoying the eightiestastic New Mutants (and looking ahead on wikipedia I get to shake my fist and go "Damn you Liefeld" as if I were an old pro.) Scottish werewolf! Robot type alien with adorable speech pattern! Poor dead Doug Ramsey! And there is a modern continuation title out now to taunt me and my wallet.
In current titles I have been trying to catch up with X Factor, which hits my snarky and obliviously-dorky main character kink and has canon gay! Between two men! Written by a male author! And it doesn't have Wolverine! Sorry Logan, love you but damn do you get around. Even though that author is quite an egotist and probably killed the old scans_daily. And there is X Force, which wouldn't normally be my thing, (it is an X Men spinoff that does have Wolverine) but has Scottish Werewolf getting put through the wringer. Damn writers!
And today I picked up the fisrt volume of Joss Whedon's Astonishing X Men run. I probably would have ended up shaking my fist going "Damn you Whedon!" but upcoming X Men spoilers spoiled one of the things he did in that, leaving me shaking my head and saying "oh of course you did that Joss." At least in comics there's always a good chance that a few years later another writer will come along and undo it.

Geeky stuff.
Nov. 11th, 2009 07:00 pmI bought some comics today, previously an area of geekary I had dared not enter. I blame you Linkara!
I got X Force, because Scottish werewolves are win, and the first Hellboy graphic novel because I liked the film, which yeah I know kills any comic cred before I've even started.
