A strong, complex, intriguing Disney female character and she is not a princess! Yes, she is a cat, but in my opinion one of the best female characters out of Disney's recent out put (I can't comment on the Princess and the Frog yet because if they ever had a single worldwide release date Disney would end up exploding or something. Damn you Disney!). From surviving on the New York streets with only bluff and wits, to getting dragged across America by a delusional dog, Mittens shows off her resourcefulness and dry, sarcastic humour.
So, for

When we first meet Mittens we see her running her own protection racket to get her meals, keeping her pigeons in line with the threat of "the Claws"...

Unfortunately some of the pigeons invoke deluded dog. She only loses here because that is cheating!

But Mittens is nothing but resourceful...

...not matter how unconventional.

Darn that old "there is a piano behind you" trick!

Mittens shows she is the brains of the outfit in her cunning ploy to use the cute doggie to get the food.

Not impressed with even more delusion. "I don't know what's going on here, but I'm just a little bit concerned about the number of lunatics on this trip. My limit is *one.*"

Then she is dragged into another action scene.

But now she's in charge. She's in a tree!

But a brief stint inside shows a vulnerable side.

And that she knows more about being a dog than the deluded dog. I feel a montage coming on.

"Even Rocky had a montage. MONTAGE!"

They pretend they're going to always be there for you, and then one day they pack up and move away and take their love with them, and leave their declawed cat to fend for herself! They leave her, wondering what she did wrong.
I know it's judgemental, but if you don't feel even the tiniest twinge during this scene, YOU HAVE NO SOUL!

Of course this is a Disney film so of course she goes after him.

And just in time for thrilling heroics, and even gets her own little moment rescuing the deluded hamster.

Mittens gets her happy ever after. Aw.
