I have a soft spot for this one. It has it's problems, the story is your typical coming of age, hero blah blah, and the pacing is off thanks to the inflexible run time that western animation suffers from not allowing it to breathe. But it is visually gorgeous and has owls stabbing each other!

Pretty porn!

Our main character is Soren, who sadly suffers from main character blandness syndrome.

But there's totally gay couple Twilight and Digger. Come on, when they show up they are shacked up together and bickering like an old married couple.

And inappropriate evil student/teacher relationshipping. It's Helen Mirren!

Photobucket
There are like two scenes where romance is hinted at between Soren and Otulissa to prove Soren has the NotGays.

Photobucket
Which is rubbish because clearly Soren/Gylfie is where it's at!

The film gets away with some impressive bloodless violence, with neck snappings and implied throat cutting.

And gets points for actually having the hero kill the villain, instead of the old falling off a cliff thing. That would be awkward to pull off when your characters can fly, I suppose.

Happy endings. Who cares your brother got seduced by evil Helen Mirren Owl, went evil and now probably dead? Or are they. Sequel hook! Oh wait, it made how much at the box office? Never mind then.

EEEEE!
*coughs*

I also adore this movie! I grew up with the books (which were really good and got very grimdark the longer they went on).
I was sad they changed some stuff though....although some of it made for a happier ending (let's just say some owls seen at the end shouldn't be there).

Anyway, this picspam is awesome and you should feel awesome. :D

ps: the director says he wants to do a sequel anyway in spite of the low domestic box office.

Hehe, yep, I've read the first four books, so I know who shouldn't be there.

It would be great if there was a sequel now all the set up is out of the way, though I would hope Animal Logic would still be the ones making it. Their photo real style is so pretty.

Well, it's Zach Snyder and he pretty much has the money to do whatever he wants, so I'm hoping he goes through with it. It was the top movie at the time of its release even if it didn't make back enough.
And yes, Animal Logic would have to be the ones to do it! I love their animation and the way their animals look so real, yet so full of emotion and personality. It would be easiest for them to do the animating too, since they have all the original character models. I would think it would be even more costly to hire another studio to try and mimic those files from scratch. Plus, Zach Snyder doesn't exactly cut corners with his special effects.

I read somewhere the film got a lot of Australian tax breaks, so maybe that would contribute to its profitability. But then Hollywood is weird with what they count as flops and successes, using convoluted math to write of things you'd think were successful as flops so to avoid paying people.
