Party like it was 1993.

Having stolen my sisters season 1 X Files DVDs (I have no guilt, I got them for her for Christmas and she hadn't even opened them yet), I'm commencing on an epic season 1 rewatch. Yes the mytharc makes no sense in the end, but time heals all wounds apparently. So there's some hope for BSG.
So, to start of with: the very beginning. The pilot.
It's a Vancouver pine forest. Yay Vancouver!
Wow, the nineties really were grey weren't they. The 70s get brown, the 80s get "oh my god my eyes too bright!" and poor old nineties get to be grey.
Young Scully before the Scully haircut and Scully red, but it's nice to see the "stylish" suits started off from the very beginning (yet she still looks lovely in them). I can't get over the fact that Gillian Anderson here is really 24, that's younger than I am now. I'm getting old!
Mulder and Scully are so young! It's like the X Files, the high school years (I would watch that). And slightly suspect acting, but they do get much better.
Plotwise I hadn't realized how vague it all was, and what do Mulder and Scully actually achieve here? Beyond having fun chemistry and getting rained on.
And so begins the long tradition of Scully just missing the alien spaceship.
Ah, good old government conspiracy stuff. Funnily enough it seems people have gone back to believing the American governemt is capibable of pulling off giant conspiracies again, there's even a new one with the 9/11 truthers.
Oh Smoking Man, you are creepily awesome. And could probably pull off giant conspiracies if you weren't surrounded by incompetents.
It's like I'm a young teen again.

Date: 2009-06-02 12:01 pm (UTC)Americans and conspiracy theories are just so weird to a Norwegian. I suspect it's because our state is less big and a lot closer, so it's harder to imagine it being up to dastardly tricks. I assume it has much better things to do than cover stuff up for the heck of it, too.
