Doctor Who: The End of the World
Feb. 6th, 2011 05:13 pmThe one with all the aliens, and they don't even need to leave earth...s orbit at least. Oh, I remember the days hanging out in that hive of scum and villainy Outpost Gallifrey, and all the bitching about the lack of alien planets and the gay agenda. So much bitching.
Again, all RTD's typical tricks are here too, introducing a host of sympathetic guest characters. And then killing most of them. Oh RTD, you do like your wholescale slaughter. And then there is the epic scene where the Doctor saves the day which is pretty much this:
Jabe was awesome. Of course she had to die. Cassandra was a fun, but shallow villain. She also had to die (she gets better).
So basically the strength in the episode lies in the character interaction, from Rose and the Doctor's establishing relationship (and more challenging from Rose! Gawd, I missed that!), Rose and her first talk with the help, to bitchy trampoline Cassandra, and fun moments like the Earth getting destroyed set to Brittany Spears, and the Doctor bringing the gift of air from his lungs. Cheap ass.
