The thing about Moffat running the show is you now get to see Moffat by the numbers, which was this episode. It was no Voyage of the Damned, thank God, but it wasn't the best. Plot holes and overlong, some eye-roll worthy gender issues and so much treacle, but the atmosphere was great if not the distilled Christmas of last years and the Mum from Ountnumbered was great. Had a bit of trouble taking Alexander Armstrong as the RAF pilot dad though.

The moment pilotDad's plane was in trouble I was thinking I would be impressed if he stayed dead, because sometimes character death does work, but eh it is Christmas. And RTD probably used up all the Christmas deaths with Voyage of the Damned.

I had the same thought about the pilot!!! He was just popping into camden to buy some really cool trousers. Isn't it?

There was a little gender!fail with the whole women are really cool cause they can be MOTHERS. But I found I still enjoyed it!

And then the Luftwaffe was massively disrespecting his trousers, isn't it?

That bit did feel like Moffat going 'look, MOTHERS! Women Strong, Men Weak! No gender issues here!'
