Two episodes in, and the plot continues to not be as tight as his previous stuff. Which is fine, it's a lot easier when you only have one ep a season to focus on, and as long as it's still fun and keeps the flow of the story going so it doesn't become a problem. Could become a problem later mind, it did with Russel, but we are still in the honeymoon phase so lets not worry about that.
Though I would still like to see a single RTD penned ep under Moffat as showrunner, just to see what he would do when he only had to worry about his one story and not the show on the whole.
Ok, now, the actual episode. SPACE WHALE! And Scotland pissing off in their own ship (and we totally built and then buggered off with the engine. Screw the children).
And Matt Smith continues to wow me. And the lack of wallowing about being the last of the Time Lords ("it was a bad day") was nice. But then we were back on familiar ground with him being all judgmental about the Space Whale, and stupid humans, and having to do the worst thing ever but lobotomizing it so it won't feel the pain. Which totally brought back Donna, though I don't think Moffat meant it that way, he never seemed to pay much mind to RTD's companions when they were even there. But screw him, that's what I'm thinking. Oh Donna. That really sucked.
Amy, running around the space ship in her pjs. And showing initiative and exploring on her own and stuff. Nooo, don't do that, that never works out if you're not the Doctor! But in spite of getting caught it didn't turn out too bad, and then I remembered that this is Moffat Who now.
Giant cracks in the Universe, ok so instead of a phrase we get a visual thing popping up all over the place this time. Still a crappy way to do a story arc, but we are only two eps in. Maybe their will be an actual arc, instead of phrase, phrase, phrase, (or visual thing, visual thing, visual thing) then it only actually mattering in the finale. Because that's not an arc, that's just adverts for another ep.
