I was a little surprised when Daddy Merlin got killed so quickly, I had thought that would have been offed in the epic climax of the episode. Instead it was, hey Merlin this guy is your dad, oh dear looks like he's a jerk, no he's alright time for some father son bonding oh noes now he's dead. Poor Merlin is like a puppy that keeps getting kicked.
But I'm glad he didn't kill the Dragon, after all who would do the into voice over? And he got a name! Even though I have completely forgotten what it was. It was a really nice moment when Merlin showed him mercy. The relationship between those too is really interesting, I actually find them a bit more interesting that the Gaius Merlin father/son type relationship.
And there's actually been a bit of shaking up of the format, with Morgana off and the Dragon freed, but Arthur still hasn't found out about the magic, that would be going too far. Meh. I would love it if when Merlin does finally do the reveal, Arthur's reaction would be "yeah, duh, I figured that out ages ago." It would make up for all the contrived ways the writers have him miss the times Merlin uses magic.
Also, look what I got! Yay, no more constant pugging.
