Book Reviews

The Lives of Christopher Chant by Diana Wynne Jones
I continue to love this series. 3rd in publishing order, first in chronological order and 2nd in the order that I'm reading it because I like to be awkward (and had bought Charmed Life out of a charity shop and did not know the order). More interesting world building, and Christopher manages to keep on the sympathetic side of brattery to remain entertaining through out.

The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula Le Guin
The second Earthsea book, I had found the first one tricky to get into as I had felt distanced from the protagonist by Le Guin's writing style, but she doesn't have that problem here. Her prose is beautiful, the setting lush without info-dumping and her protagonist engaging despite being quite unlikable at times, and even then you can understand why she is the way she is. And it is interesting to see Ged from an outsiders viewpoint, which proves a nice underlining of how much he had changed throughout the course of a Wizard of Earthsea, from an arrogant brat into a compassionate, intelligent man.
