BOOK REVIEWS
Blood Rites (Dresden Case Files) by Jim Butcher
Harry Dresden gets a puppy! And some other stuff happened. The ongoing story arcs overshadow the actual individual plot in this one, so it probably wouldn't be a good idea to read this out of order. While not as good as the previous few books in the series it's still enjoyable enough, and the character revelations and hints towards plot developments are interesting.
Zahrah the Windseeker by Nnedi Okorafor-Mbachu
I loved this one; a pre-teen sci fi/fantasy quest novel with a strong female main character with awesome character development, neat world building and plant based technology and a base of African mythology rather than the usual European that's typical to fantasy. Plus, Douglas Adams reference for the win!.
Sourcery by Terry Pratchett
An early Discworld, and it's interesting to see how Terry Pratchett improved with each novel. The jokes and characters are fun, though here he continues to merely take the piss out of the fantasy genre, rather than the later books where he continues the same while at the same time being legitimate fantasy in its own right. But you can see the hints of the depths Pratchett puts in his later novels; the fact that this dangerous Sourcerer is a little boy bullied into doing what his father wants, and the themes of finding your own way rather than what you are told to be.
